The cost of certain in-network procedures can vary by over 400%. The biggest factor driving cost is where the care is provided.
An Echocardiogram (heart test) can cost from $150- $350 depending on the provider, for example.
This is a sad reality. We know that a bread loaf will probably have about the same price (give and take) at different supermarkets or bakeries. Not a medical test or procedure. There is a disconnect with pricing when it comes to the medical arena. Even physicians, me included, are totally unaware of pricing for certain tests.
Furthermore, if you are covering the cost of a test with medical insurance (depending on your co-insurance amount), you could end up paying more than if you did not have insurance at all.
Always compare pricing if you have a high deductible policiy or you are uninsured when you schedule a test or procedure. Be a good consumer!
